Join Me On The Plastic Free Challenge with DMP Churches

I think the statement, I am giving up chocolate for Lent, is a bit over used if you ask me.

That is why I am teaming up with the Benefice of St Dunstan's, St Mildred's and St Peter's church in Canterbury to help promote a plastic free challenge!

During the 40 days of Lent (excluding Sundays) we will post daily tips that will provide easy (and sometimes even cheaper) alternatives to plastic.

Below is some more information on how to take part!

What do I do first?

Download the image below and tell everyone on social media that you are taking part. Now don't worry, you don't need to throw out everything that is plastic in your house. But, by posting online that you are taking part, you will be taking the first step to becoming more environmentally friendly!

You can help spread the word by using these hashtags when you post anything that is related to being plastic-free:

What if I don't want to take part, but want to help?

If you don't want to take part then no worries! However, if you still want to help us out, you can share this blog or share the image above on social media. This will help us a lot, since you will be spreading awareness and help a community of like-minded people.

Do I have to be in Canterbury?

Nope, you can be anywhere in the world! Even though the DMP church is rooted in Canterbury, we hope that everyone around the world can take part!

Do I have to be a Christian to take part?

Of course not! This challenge is fully inclusive, and therefore anyone can take part no matter your individual beliefs. As human beings, we all have a duty to take care of our planet.

Awesome, so how do I go plastic-free for Lent?

This is the best part! All you need to do is stay tuned for our daily tips starting on the 17th, Ash Wednesday! We will be posting on all of our social media accounts so make sure you are following. List of pages to follow are below:

We don't expect you to use zero plastic for 40 days straight, but being more aware of how much plastic you use and waste can lead to a more eco-friendly environment. This planet is a gift and we must do what we can to save it.

Here is a sneak peak of one of the useful tips we will be posting daily!

The first of many eco tips to come! A lot of our plastic waste comes from the bathroom, and so by switching to eco-friendly alternatives, we can reduce our plastic usage by a lot. Below are the links to take the first step and order some toothpaste tablets!

Here is a short video outlining what we are going to do during Lent!

Thank you for reading and I hope you can join us!

Daily Eco Tip #2! Whenever you want to give someone a present, try and support sellers who incorporate eco-friendliness into their products. Use websites like Etsy or Friendly Turtle to show someone how much you care with an eco friendly gift!

Hello again! This one is for all the coffee lovers out there. You may not know this but we use 7 million disposable coffee cups every day. And that’s only in the UK! Perhaps a BYO cup discount sounds a lot better now?

Number 4! Whenever we shop fruit and veg, we normally use the free plastic bags provided. However, if we bring our own reusable bag, we will be doing the planet a big favour by reducing our plastic usage!
